Overview

The Canadian Government is dedicated to keeping families together. The Canada Dependent Visa through the Family Class scheme allows citizens of Canada and permanent residents of Canada who is 18 years and older to sponsor their dependent parents, children, grandparents, common-law, spouse, and conjugal partners. To sponsor a person with Canada Dependent Visa, a sponsor needs to produce documents proving his/her finances from the prior 12 months to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (I.R.C.C) so that they can decide if the sponsor can financially assist the members he/she is sponsoring to come to Canada.

Eligibility Criteria

Through Canada Dependent Visa, you can sponsor:

  • A child you adopted Canada outside while you were a citizen of Canada or permanent resident of Canada living in Canada, and the child must be below 22 years old and not married.
  • A child you plan to adopt in Canada, and the child must be below 22 years old and not married.
  • Your sister or brother, grandson or granddaughter, nephew or niece, if they are an orphan, below 18 years of age and not married.
  • Any individual who you have a family connection with you if you don't have a common-law partner, spouse, daughter, son, father, mother, sister, brother, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew who is a citizen of Canada, a permanent resident of Canada or whom you may sponsor.
  • Your spouse, common-law partner.
  • Your parents or grandparents.

Canada Dependent Visa: Permanent Residency

Two levels are included in the process of children having Canada Dependent Visa for receiving permanent residence.

In the first level, the sponsor of the Canada dependent visa needs to apply for the dependent children sponsorship. The appeal will be processed by the Canadian Case Processing Centre (C.P.C.). Once the sponsorship is accepted by the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (I.R.C.C.), the dependent children containing Canada Dependent Visa must apply for Canada PR.

Processing Time

The processing time for the Canada Dependent visa depends on the nation from where you are applying. If you are sponsoring the Spouse or common-law partner living Canada outside the application may take the processing time of 9-12 months as per the new changes. Previously the average processing time for the Canada Dependent visa in Canada was approximately 24-26 months.
